Colors show residual disinfectant levels. The EPA drinking-water limit is 4.0 ppm. Daily shower contact can affect skin and hair at lower residuals. Individual responses vary; colors are not a health-risk or compliance rating.

Chloramine reported-system ranking

Compare the share of included water-system averages above the 4.0 ppm EPA MRDL reference, alongside each selected-system average. Limited reporting subsets—not statewide coverage.

A useful starting point, not a tap-water test.

These state figures summarize available utility reports. Your water can vary by utility, source water, season, and the plumbing between the main and your shower.

Methodology and coverage limits

The displayed figure is the arithmetic mean of the utility averages available for the selected analyte. Each utility system counts equally. Source statistics vary by utility and this map is not an EPA compliance calculation.

Chlorine and chloramine are shown as separate layers. Reports without a separate average for the selected analyte are excluded from that state’s figure and shown as no separate data for that layer.

Regional proxy states: Alabama, Delaware, Illinois, and South Dakota use figures from adjacent-state systems only; there is no national fallback. No state-specific average on file. Figure reflects surrounding regions. A regional proxy is not a measurement or average for the state itself.

Data vintage: figures labelled 2025 in the supplied utility-report compilation; assembled October 2026. Monitoring periods vary by utility. The EPA 4.0 ppm MRDL is a reference limit, not this dataset’s reporting period. Consult the linked utility report for its exact monitoring window.

Source data review pending. Figures and source links remain visible while the compilation is reviewed.
